When individuals and their families visit The Avenue in White Marsh it’s very likely they will walk by this contribution to community art and stop for a peek at these adorable life-size duck sculptures! There are several individual ducklings in line behind the mother who can easily be noticed on the edge of the sidewalk. The life-like size, realistic positioning, and joyful expressions on the sculptures bring so much delight to people of all ages during their experience.
How do you think the art has made meaning in the community?
This piece of art brings people, not only of, but in a community together. Regardless of someone’s beliefs, culture, or where they’re from, art gives them something in common to connect over and a reason for good emotion. First, this particular piece of art in the community serves a good purpose for the economy in Baltimore County, MD. People who visit this location stop to check out the art and the increase in foot traffic brings more attention and business to everything else located at The Avenue. Second, these sculptures help engage children and young emerging artists in learning. Observing different kinds of artwork, different styles, colors, materials, etc. helps to broaden acceptance to learning new things. Additionally, overall community art has a tendency to strengthen the livelihood of an environment which then in turn, can increase production of people there.
