What type of leadership is present in the community?

Community

How is this art specifically seen in the community?

A number of smaller light columns line the sides of the road, and a large light column is installed in front of the Coquitlam City Hall, which is near the end station of the Evergreen line. The bottom section of the column is sculpted to look like pine tree bark. Pine trees are a type of evergreen tree, matching the name of the Skytrain line.

The upper and largest section of the columns are illuminated with LED lights. The patterns and colors of the light are programmable, and can be customized for holidays and special events.

How do you think the art has made meaning in the community?

The tree design of art reflects the local environment, creating a focal point that the diverse community can all appreciate. The nature element is also reflected in other pieces of nearby art, reflecting the natural-resource driven history of logging and fishing. The tree is also relevant in today’s climate conscious world.

The LED displays help create a sense of community around events, and give a vibrant feel during the nighttime in the downtown area.
